Hazardous and Special Waste Information System is defined and developed as a project supported by the European Union. In the defining phase of the Project it is planned to cover only special waste operations. In 2008, with the guidance of MoEF IT Department, it is developed to cover also Hazardous Waste Information by the project team of Environmental Information System Maintenance and Development project. In the same period, it was made possible that the data needed by all departments of the Ministry is used collectively by a system developed independently and integrated with Environmental Information System.

Currently the system is in operation on the servers of the Ministry. It is planned to open the system to industrialists in Turkey for their use after necessary operational works. This way, data obtained by waste producer and recycling and disposal facilities can be collected on electronic environment, related affidavits can be compared and cross checks will be possible. Performing all these works on electronic environment within the body of the Ministry will prevent workload that is caused by process presently performed on paper and will provide that hazardous and special waste information is kept updated and this way a controllable structure will be created.

The system also includes the functionality that was developed in the scope of TABS project previously. By putting the system into operation, the use of waste declaration forms in the scope of TABS project will be unnecessary.

Information on facilities obtained with TABS project previously and waste declaration forms collected in 2007 and 2008 are entered to the servers of the Ministry ready for the use of Hazardous/Special Waste Information system and necessary regulations are done.
