The goal is to develop soil monitoring programme as a tool for collecting geo-referenced soil data in a harmonized format. Soil monitoring program can provide detailed guidelines for the establishment of soil monitoring system, tested at area which include all soil types and pattern of use categories, and specially determine vulnerable zones, industrial area, disposal sites, oil exploitation mud pits and other potentially contaminated spots.

The ADRICOSM Partnership was launched as a Type II Initiative at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg in September 2002, after the Italian Ministry of Territory, Land and Sea had launched ADRICOSM Pilot Project October 2001, within the Adriatic Ionian Initiative
The Partnership aims are:
•efficiently organize, evaluate and coordinate multinational research, development and implementation programs, which can advance the understanding, monitoring and predictive capabilities in the Adriatic Sea area for the establishment of integrated coastal areas and river basin management systems
•consolidate the monitoring and prediction system by involving a large range of intermediate and end users of the research products.
Beside ADRICOSM Pilot Project, 4 more projects have been funded within this framework, and the last of them is ADRICOSM-STAR, within which an Information Management System – the Adricosm-Star GeoPortal - has been implemented in order to
•provide basic services to ADRICOSM STAR partners and users (such as data exchange, data discovery, data viewing, etc..)
•highlight partners products and services through dedicated products’ catalogues
•start the implementation of an INSPIRE compliant Information System (based on discovery service, viewing service, downloading service, transformation service).

ES-WAMAR is a large-scale European demonstration Project on handling swine waste promoted by SODEMASA, the Society for Environmental Development in Aragon, and approved by the European Union within the framework of the Life-Environmental Programme.

The Project will be conducted in three different areas, with the same initial problems, such is the large amount of pig waste produced, with several management systems being proposed in keeping with the specific characteristics of each area.

As alternative to the management of swine waste, the valorisation of the livestock waste is prioritized as nutrients recycling in farmlands, and later, when it does not exist enough farmland area available, swine waste is treated biologically.

The main objective of the Nationwide Information System for Environmental Pollution Data Collection and Assessments is to comprehensively contribute to environmental protection and improvement in the Czech Republic through digitalizing work and systematically acquiring and evaluating information. This is a current prerequisite for economic growth within sustainable development. The main users of the new information system will include public authorities and institutions; nevertheless, the system will also be open to the general public.

The advantages and benefits of the project are substantially higher transparency, consistency and the efficiency of relationships between businesses, public administration, the general public and the environmental sector.
The information system will include three main parts within separate project tasks: An Integrated System for Fulfilling Information Duties (ISPOP), the Environmental Helpdesk and the Geoportal.

The project MODELCOL is integrated in the framework of the urgent need for solutions for compensating human deterioration of the environment. New environmental policies point out natural ecosystems as key elements for providing ecological services such as water purification, soil detoxification, climate regulation and advocate for the creation of new ecosystems (as surrogates for the degraded natural systems) for increasing their positive effect on the environment. The design of such new ecosystems needs to be optimized for providing the best ecological services. The project MODECOL aims at developing an hybrid model, sufficiently realistic, that will simulate a prairial ecosystem (modelled through IBM) correlated through feedbacks to environmental conditions (modelled through PDEs). This approach aims to provide a virtual laboratory for testing ecological hypothesis on complex ecological systems.
